Once, when flower shirts accompanied long hair together with loads of protest against American foreign affairs, with peace signs and free love for everyone, a new genre of music was born which we now call psychedelia.

Blue Cheer is a child of that revolution and have probably delivered the best work ever with their 'Vincebus Eruptum' record. So Blue Cheer still exist and we had the honour to see them on the latest edition of the Roadburn Festival.

So what can we expect after twenty years? We can expect the best drumming from Joey Hasselvander, the rough throat of Dickie and splendid guitar works from Duck. Blue Cheer isn't the best band around, but sheer volume and intensity always did it for them. Blue Cheer provided the blue print for many stoner bands today and the funny thing is that 'What Doesn't Kill You' sounds way more stoner than their debut. Maybe some technical stuff did help in that department.

But, the old stuff has the charisma and the authenticity of course. One cannot help that! But the power behind the songs is still there, the drive is omnipresent and Blue cheer delivers a mighty work, from bluesy rock tunes like 'Maladjusted Child' to slow emotional songs like 'No Relief'. An album that grows on you for sure. We are just happy that they are still around!
